Our Congregation came to life after the Lutheran Theological Seminary Enhlanhleni, an institution founded by the Mission of Lutheran Churches, moved to Arcadia in 2000.
Due to the fact that at that time the Students of the Seminary already came from different lingual backgrounds and the tuitional language was English, most consequently the Daily devotions and the Sunday Services of the Seminary have been celebrated in English from the beginning.
With time this offer of an English Lutheran Worship in Arcadia drew the attention of more and more people, so that the number of church attendants, who were no students or teachers at the seminary, has increased over the years.
With this increasing number of permanent church attendants, the need of pastoral care and own structures for this congregational group also grew.
Until 2007 the pastoral care was provided by teachers of the seminary.
Since November 2007 the Congregation has its own Pastor and started a process of structuring itself. This process merged on November 15, 2009, in the constitution of the 'Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Arcadia' (ELC). The ELC is presently aiming at an affiliation with one of the Confessional Lutheran Church Bodies of South Africa. |
